Veterans Equality Act (Senate bill S.07160, Assembly bill A.09531). Members should check with their respective pension system.

The new law expands pension credit for veterans and will allow honorably discharged service members, with five years of existing public pension credit, to obtain three years of service credit for their military service during times of peace. This law honors those who have bravely served our nation and encourages them to return to New York and continue their public service as teachers, firefighters, police officers, municipal and state employees.

Provides up to three years of service credit to members of public retirement systems of the state for military service rendered during times of peace; removes requirement that such military service occur during specified periods of hostilities; requires such members have at least five years of credited service, not including military service; appropriates $24,800,000 therefor.
