Many times, car & truck manufacturers are forced to implement safety recalls by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. When this happens, notices are sent out to registered owners. Sometimes you never receive these notices because you moved, bought a used car or the mail gets lost.

An easy way to find out if there are any recalls on your car/truck or a used one that you are planning to buy, is to enter the NHTSA web site and enter the VIN. Purchasing a Certified used vehicle doesn’t mean that all the safety recalls have been performed. Under law, used car dealers are not required to repair parts under recall, only to inform the buyer that there may be a recall and tell you how to find out. It doesn’t matter if the used vehicle is purchased from an independent dealer or one associated with a new car dealer.
